A Barnstable County, Massachusetts grand jury has indicted former Massachusetts abortionist Rapin Osathanondh in the abortion related death of 22 year old Laura Hope Smith. The grand jury investigation discovered attempts by Osathanondh, who was a Harvard Fellow, to cover up his neglect of safety procedures that resulted in the death of Miss Smith on September 13th, 2007.

Eileen Smith, Laura’s mother, spoke with CWA Policy Analyst Martha Kleder about this latest development.

“Imagine” She’s Ticked: Yoko Ono Loses NY Lawsuit

New York Lawyer
June, 2008

NEW YORK (AP) – Yoko Ono has lost her Manhattan legal battle to block the use of John Lennon’s song “Imagine” in a film challenging the theory of evolution.

Lennon’s widow had sued the makers of “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” saying they used parts of the song without her permission.

In a decision Monday, federal Judge Sidney Stein says the filmmakers are protected under the “fair use” doctrine. That permits small parts of a copyrighted work to be used without an author’s permission under certain circumstances.

The movie opened on U.S. screens in April; it’s set for release in Canada on Friday and on DVD in October.

It presents a sympathetic view of intelligent design, the theory that the universe is too complex to be explained by evolution alone.

Ono’s attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.

ALERT: Barnes and Nobel Allows Porn to be Accessible To Minors in Violation of State Law

Recently a local (TN) minister took his 11 year old son to Barnes and Nobel to pick up some DVDs that he had ordered, and while he was there they both encountered a full color, opened coffee table book that contained something that NO 11 year old boy (or anyone else for that matter) should be allowed to display in a store that is frequented by minors.

We MUST speak out against this idiocy and protect our children from the slow indoctrination in sexual perversion. Let us join with others who care about maintaining a family friendly environment for ourselves and our children in holding Barnes and Nobel (and other businesses) accountable for their actions.

I will no longer shop at Barnes and Nobel until their policies change (and perhaps until they quit allowing their buyers to purchase these types of products for their company.)

Please go here to find out more and please be advised that this information is NOT SUITABLE for children:

Hit and Run Victim Left Lying In Street: Is The Good Samaritan No More?

The Arrival Of The Good Samaritan At The Inn by Gustave Dore

IT WOULD BE a rare thing to know one person that doesn’t know the story of the Good Samaritan. The parable was told by Jesus after an expert of the Law tested Jesus by asking, “…what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

The story revolves around how several different people treat a man who was attacked by a band of robbers and left for dead. Two Jewish, religious leaders pass by the severely injured man, but both decide to continue on their way without getting involved, each running excuses through their minds to justify their callousness. They even went so far as to go to the opposite side of the road to avoid getting near him.

One man, however, does stop to help the man. He happened to be a Samaritan, an ethnoreligious offshoot (so-to-speak) of the Hebrews that followed the teachings of the Torah and considered their faith to be the true faith of the Hebrews. The mainstream Jewish leaders considered them to be basically heretics. So the Samaritans were treated with disdain by the more numerous Jews. Most people think that the Samaritans were from Samaria, but in reality the Samaritans were Hebrews who followed Samaritanism, and the Jews followed Judaism. There’s more to that story but you can read it later HERE.

The term “Good Samaritan” has been used for a very long time to refer to anyone who helps someone in trouble regardless of the other’s religious background or political opinions – they just help because they have mercy on the person in trouble.

Most people have experienced the helping hand of the Good Samaritan at least one time in their lives. We almost assume that if there is trouble of any kind, there will be SOMEONE nearby who will see the trouble and just automatically help, without thought to personal safety or worrying if it a convenient time to help or not.

I think this assumption is why there was such shock at the story coming out of Hartford, Connecticut today.
THIS STORY
should shock all of us.

An elderly man is hit by a car, which then flees the scene, and although the street is full of cars driving to and fro and pedestrians lining the sidewalks, NOT ONE PERSON goes to the aid of the man in the street.

Hartford Police Chief Daryl Roberts was quoted as saying, “We no longer have a moral compass… We have no regard for each other…”

That’s definitely got to be the understatement of the year and a severe indictment of the state of a society without mercy.

Has this society gotten so far away from everything that is good and merciful that a 78 year old man in critical condition can lay in the street and no one cares enough to stop and help him? What were the people who were witnessing this thinking? “Oh, Well… Survival of the Fittest…”???

The police chief had it right. Many people now have no moral compass… no regard for others. They go to work, make their money, and then hurry home to watch American Idol or Dancing with the Stars… while their neighbor lays in the street.

Lord, plant deep in our hearts a true religion that reaches out with love to help those in need and help us glorify you with our attitudes and actions toward our fellow man.

Charlton Heston’s Faith: Was He A Christian? (Plus – Heston’s Harvard Speech, 1999)

I noticed that my dashboard showed a lot of search terms like, “was Charlton Heston a Christian”, and actually so far today ALL the search terms have had some variation of this question… “It’s a good question,” I told myself. So, not really knowing if he was or not, I decided to do a search of my own.

Aside from the astounding fact that he stayed married to his wife, Lydia, for 64 years (a miraculous feat in and of itself in a place like Hollywood) I found many very interesting items about this great man that you may not know…

Such as apparently George Clooney thought it was perfectly okay to mock Heston’s revelation that he had Alzheimer’s disease.

Michael Moore (that fine, upstanding individual), who’s propaganda film (or should I say docu-dramamine) “Bowling for Columbine” featured an interview with Heston that attempted to challenge his stance on the Second Amendment… remember, Mr. Heston was already suffering from Alzheimer’s – but he seemed pretty lucid to me. Mr. Moore apparently is a card carrying member if the NRA. (I guess I should run right out and join NARAL…) **

Unlike some candidates running for president this election cycle, Mr. Heston actually DID march with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr…

He also openly organized boycotts of Hollywood eateries that refused to serve blacks. Here is an interesting post. A very generous obituary from an activist blog that I normally wouldn’t frequent:
A Peaceniks view of Charlton Heston’s Activism.

And of course, there is this now-famous speech he made at Harvard in 1999…

Winning the Cultural War
Charlton Heston’s Speech to the Harvard Law School Forum
Feb 16, 1999
I remember my son when he was five, explaining to his kindergarten class what his father did for a living. “My Daddy,” he said, “pretends to be people.” There have been quite a few of them. Prophets from the Old and New Testaments, a couple of Christian saints, generals of various nationalities and different centuries, several kings, three American presidents, a French cardinal and two geniuses, including Michelangelo.

If you want the ceiling repainted I’ll do my best. There always seem to be a lot of different fellows up here. I’m never sure which one of them gets to talk. Right now, I guess I’m the guy.

As I pondered our visit tonight it struck me: If my Creator gave me the gift to connect you with the hearts and minds of those great men, then I want to use that same gift now to reconnect you with your own sense of liberty of your own freedom of thought … your own compass for what is right.

Dedicating the memorial at Gettysburg, Abraham Lincoln said of America, “We are now engaged in a great Civil War, testing whether this nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.” Those words are true again. I believe that we are again engaged in a great civil war, a cultural war that’s about to hijack your birthright to think and say what resides in your heart. I fear you no longer trust the pulsing lifeblood of liberty inside you … the stuff that made this country rise from wilderness into the miracle that it is…

Read the rest of the speech HERE.

Was Charlton Heston a Christian? I don’t know. But if he was as humble about his own activism and it’s impact on society as I estimate that he was, perhaps he also chose to keep the extent of his religious affections (or lack thereof) under his hunting hat.

We will miss him.

(Here is a link to the AP story about Heston’s funeral written by Bob Thomas, who apparently was informed by family members that Heston was indeed a devoutly religious man.

Another unique look at Heston can be found at Pilgrim’s Planet.
